Self Love: the struggle is real!

How can a boudoir session help you with that?

I’m gonna get personal for a moment. Even as a boudoir photographer i’ve struggled with loving myself. My mantra is to love your body no matter how much it changes. Because it does, there is no getting around that nugget of truth. Even if you eat healthy and stay in the best shape it’s still aging. Lets face it for most of us who struggle to find the time and energy to eat right and workout regularly, it looks especially different from the one we started with. Day to day life grinds us down and we feel used up.

Women in particular often feel like we have to give ourselves to everyone; our family, friends, work and the PTA. We almost need to be given permission to love ourselves which is ridiculous of course but true.

With technology the way it is, it’s easy for us to compare ourselves to unrealistic and often heavily airbrushed or photoshopped bodies.

It’s moments like this, boudoir photography when done with an eye for inclusivity and body acceptance can be a powerful tool in our journey towards self-love. I know that’s what it was for me. I wasn’t and still am not tall or thin but something changed my outlook while I was a young mother struggling through university with a child in tow. I fell into modeling, I wasn’t the ideal type but I fit into a growing movement of inclusivity. I was a minority and I was curvy so there I was. When I saw my photos I couldn’t believe how good I actually looked. I realized how many lies I’d told myself about my body. As more years and another baby has changed me further. I still retain the confidence that my body is powerful and beautiful no matter how it looks.

Boudoir photography is more than just sexy photos, lingerie and makeup. It’s an intimate art form that serves as a tool of self-expression and empowerment. By choosing to document and showcase your most vulnerable and authentic self, you can reclaim how you view your body and redefine your relationship with it.

In a boudoir session, the focus shifts from the perceived flaws to the unique beauty of each individual. Through the skillful eye of the photographer, every curve, every scar, and every blemish is celebrated as a part of a person's story. It is a powerful reminder that our bodies are not meant to fit into societal molds but rather to tell a tale of resilience, strength, and growth.

You were meant to be real, not perfect.
